Here are a just a few of the great goals that Logica have scored during this millenium. We're sure that you have your own personal favourites.
12.02.89 SIMON WOOLHOUSE at Surrey Quays
Back in our days at the Surrey Quays Stadium, Simon Woolhouse scored a goal that will long live in the memory of most Lags. He simply belted the ball from about 30 yards into the very top right-hand corner. The precision of the shot was what made it stand out, as if he had meant to put it exactly there. It was having played at a higher level you see....
21.09.90 MITCHELL GRASSIE v Venice Utd
On the opening day of the season, as goalkeeper Tony Whitehead made his last ever appearance, Logica produced a famous 6-3 victory against Venice Utd at the Scrubs. As well as Brazilian Andy Cordery making one of only two club appearances, and Kevin Spence scoring a hat-trick, Mitchell Grassie scored one of the most spectacular goals in the club's history when he lobbed the keeper from fully 60 yards.
21.10.90 DAVE DAY v Sarkpoint
It was a special day as we trounced old rivals Sarkpoint 7-2 on the astroturf, and the legendary Dave Day scored a goal that was voted Goal of the Season. A flowing passing move saw Sidaway dummy the ball on half-way and day was clear. Advancing into the box, he rounded the keeper and slotted home.
13.01.91 MIKEY HIBBERT v Sporting Bloomsbury
It was the magic of the Cup as Mikey Hibbert took this opportunity to score his one and only goal for Logica FC. A tense match was nearing a thrilling climax as Logica were awarded a penalty. Hibbert was man enough to take the responsibility, and coolly struck home the spot-kick from twelve yards. This proved to be the decisive turning point of the match, and an inspired Logica went on to win 10-1.
10.10.93 OWN GOAL v Wilmington Arms
Kevin Spence has long been regarded as one of the more loyal servants of the club. Well on Saturday 9th October he got married to a long-time Logica FC supporter, and the following day, just before going on honeymoon, he turned out to play for the team. Not only that he nearly scored, as he stabbed the ball home from a corner. Sadly the shot deflected off a defender on the line, and the Official Club Statistician of the day recorded the strike as an Own Goal. And just to emphasise Logica as a considerate and caring club, Supremo Clarke substituted a disgruntled Spence on the hour.
02.04.94 IAN CLARKE v WVHEDW Amsterdam
For technique and pressure there are few Logica goals to beat this one. 1-0 down to the Amsterdam side, Logica win a penalty, and Supremo Clarke stands up to be counted. The whistling masses in the shadow of the Ajax Amsterdam stadium fail to disturb Clarke's concentration, and he calmly and expertly slotted home the equaliser. This proved to be the turning point in a vital away European tie, as Logica went on to win 2-1.
12.03.95 KEITH SIDAWAY v St Anselms
Of all Sidaway's many goals, this was probably the most memorable. Straight from the kick-off Spence touched the ball forward and Sidaway wellied it into the net over a stranded keeper from half-way. And this was in the days before Beckham and those light-weight balloons; this was when a football was a concrete pig's bladder kicked and headed by men. Or so Sid told me.
15.11.98 MARK ABBOTT v Eurocelts
The infamous cup tie where Logica somehow let a 3-0 half-time lead turn into a 4-7 defeat in extra time. However Abbott scored his greatest goal for Logica in that first half. Richard Scholes sent in a long ball from the left touchline, and Abbott (standing on the edge of the box) simply volleyed it first time into the bottom corner.
