Whilst Logica were stretching their beaten run to two games, their relegation rivals were all falling to defeats that will at least provide some compensation to the Supremo as he considers the two points dropped.

His team put in another much improved display, and some incisive attacking football created enough chances to have wrapped up the game by the interval, not to mention improving our somewhat embarrassing goal difference. But the chances went begging and with it the chance of a much needed win which would have been the first of four required by the Gaffer's Survival Masterplan. There is little time for regrets, however, and Sunday's big match remains a must-win game.

And it is far from being all doom and gloom. Back in November, when Logica lost all three games whilst conceding 25 goals and scoring none, even the faintest sniff of a single goalscoring opportunity seemed an unlikely prospect. On Sunday, the team created at least half a dozen gilt-edged chances by good passing football that should have been put away. When viewed in tandem with our new-found defensive resilience, this represents a dramatic improvement, and there is a genuine belief in the dressing room that an escape on a scale that Houdini might have found daunting is a real possibility.

But the this light will be quickly extinguished if three points are not forthcoming on Sunday. Everyman remain eleventh in the table after last Sunday's 4-2 defeat at home to Rapid Decline. Our point against Inter Wandsworth leaves us two behind United, and so victory on Tooting Bec Common this Sunday will take us off the bottom of the table for the first time this season. And if nothing else, pride alone should inspire us to try and gain revenge for a disappointing 2-1 defeat down at Earlsfield back in September.

It is imperative that we take each game as it comes, but we cannot help but scan the results pages in the paper to see how those just above Everyman fared. And this week the news was good. Apart from Inter Wandsworth, who were drawing with us, the two other clubs just about in our range also lost. Bragança extended their winless run to seven matches as they lost narrowly at home to Supercala. Meanwhile, ninth placed Deportivo Galicia went down 4-1 at Broadway, and are now just a point ahead of Inter. At the top, if anybody is interested in such matters, West Ten closed the gap on Wanderers to just a single point, as they cashed in one of their two games in hand with a 3-1 win over Spectraprint.

So all is set up for Sunday, and we can only hope that the thousands of optimistic Logica fans who will doubtlessly be making the long trek down to Tooting, will have something to celebrate come Sunday lunchtime.

FIXTURE NEWS IN BRIEF:

A rearrangement of Logica's home clash with Supercala (originally scheduled for 21st March) has been sanctioned by the Sportmans League to avoid a clash with Nich Fazel's stag do. A rearranged date is yet to be confirmed.

Our fixture away at Bragança, postponed on 18th January due to the Riverside Lands groundsman's excessive zeal, is likely to be bundled up with our home fixture against the same side on 28th March as a double-header.
