WIN, LOSE AND DRAW
Divisional Results Round-up and Little Ron Cup Draw

It transpires that the Supremo's absence from Sunday's taming of the Atlas Lions may have been caused by a sudden attack of vertigo.

Having been awarded their first round Little Ron Cup tie when FC Corkers cried off in advance, the hastily rearranged league fixture against the Moroccan outfit duly provided Logica with the chance to rack up some points whilst everyone else was in Cup action. The three points claimed via the 3-2 win was enough to take us up to the giddy heights of fourth place in the table, just 3 points behind the leaders Broadway, although Division Two's only 100%-ers do have a game in hand and a slightly superior goal difference.

Once he had recovered from the resultant spell of dizziness, Groom once again planted his feet firmly back on the ground. "Our next game against Kew Green is a vital one, but no more than any other game," down-talked the Logica gaffer. "Our inconsistency is infuriatingly consistent at the moment," he went on to explain, "and until we put any kind of winning run together, talk of pots, promotion or league and Cup doubles is just hot air."

Groom, however, has devised a shrewd tactical masterstroke to try and rectify the frustrating yo-yo form that has seen the team win and lose on alternate Sundays, and curiously rack up three wins out of three on our travels whilst losing every game at the Stade in between times. "The solution is simple," stated the gaffer as the assembled pack of press hounds anticipated extra training, the use of sporting psychologists, or more radically a Saturday night 3am curfew. "We currently lose every other Sunday. Therefore we will not play on those Sundays," explained the visionary Supremo. "We do not play Kew Green until the Sunday after next (a 'winning' Sunday) and I will not let us play Welham until a fortnight after that."

"As regards our poor home record," continued the Supremo, "I have less control over venues. We seem to be expected to play half our matches at home. And then there's the Cup draw. All we could hope for at this stage is to come out of the hat second, but unfortunately we have gone and landed a plum home tie. However, I can assure all of our players and fans that I will do everything in my power to move the tie away from the plush bowling-green surfaces of the Stade to some potato field in the middle of nowhere."

A hopeful manifesto that leads us neatly on to the Little Ron Cup draw that took place straight after Sunday's first round matches. Logica will be playing one of the ties of the round after being pitted against West Six in the second round on 27th November. "Some may view this as a tough draw," mused Groom, "but I view it as a great opportunity. We did not do ourselves justice last Sunday [when Logica went down 3-1 to the same opponents in a league game], and I am convinced we can play to our potential and gain revenge on Six. If you're going to win the Cup, you have to beat the top sides at some stage, and just think how the field will look if we can get through to the last eight."

The gaffer surely has a point there, for, of the six Division Two teams left in Little Ron, four have been drawn against each other. Indeed, conspiracist theorists will be having kittens after the four highest placed clubs in terms of league position were paired agaisnt each other. As well as our tie (fourth against third), the Division Two leaders Broadway were drawn against Notting Hill, currently sitting just behind us in fifth place.

If we can dispose of West Six, and noting that one of these other two giants will inevitably have fallen by the wayside, the bookies' odds on Logica picking up some silverware for the first time since 1991 will surely shorten dramatically. The other Division Two sides consist of South West Dragons, who we have already beaten, and Fulham United who sit in 8th place. Beyond that, there are four sides from Division 3, one from Division 4, and no less than 5 teams from Division 5 fighting for a place in the quarter-finals.

But luckily, the Logica Supremo is too experienced to be lulled into looking too far forward through silver-tinted glasses. "Clearly our current erratic form makes predictions pointless, and we must just concentrate on taking each game as it comes," he concluded wisely.
