MATT FINISHES ON TOP
The e-polling booth for our first democratic Man of the Match Award closed on the stroke of midnight, and unlike our cousins from across the pond, we were able to announce a clear winner within seconds. No manual recounts, no pandering to postal voters overseas, and no undignified scrap in the Supreme Court.
Matt Denyer won a clear mandate from you, the knowledgeable football public (KFP), as the best player on the field during last Sunday's match against Arab Boys. Denyers terrier-like midfield qualities allied with good vision, skill and passing were capped with his first ever goal for the club. In a landslide election, Denyer stole 67% of the vote, with only one other player (hat-trick scoring Mark Abbott) getting any votes at all.
Curiously, the KFP's decisive vote only served to confirm The Editor's fine judgement in selecting Denyer as Man of the Match in the match report posted at the start of the week. So as yet, there is no clear indication from this solitary poll as to whether a Dictatorship or a Democracy is best for the lumpen e-proletariat. We will continue with our experiment with another MoM Poll next week after this Sunday's Cup Tie against Red Star Athletic. Hopefully we'll get a bigger turnout from an apathetic electorate - just 42% of eligible voters, although to be fair it has been raining for most of the week.
