Glorious failure was the name of the game as we somehow contrived to throw away a 4-1 half time lead in eventually going down 5-6 to high flying London Radnor. Whatever nerves young Dave Holton might have had ahead of his debut for the mighty Logica, there were none on display once the game had kicked off. Straight into the fray, Holton was soon to be found getting stuck in in the unaccustomed position of right back. A combination of strength in the tackle and an ability to pass the ball, immediately marked him out as a valuable addition to the squad. And the MoM electorate, who turned out in their droves, were not slow on the uptake as Holton polled nearly half of the votes cast to walk away with the Man of the Match Award from his very first game.
The remaining votes were spread throughout the team, with even Abbott polling a vote after his passable impression of a poor man's Jari Litmanen. The midfield were also well represented, with Reevaldo (18%) and Gautam (12%) polling respectably, but it was the defence who achieved a sizable majority. As well as Holton's landslide, Hatton Major and Captain Mainwaring also retained their deposits as the Logica rearguard polled nearly three quarters of the votes placed. What with Hatton also walking away with the previous vote after a heavy defeat at home to Parsons Green, one wonders just how much more popular the back men could become if they could keep the score below six!!!
