We had to win and we did. This, of course, was a brilliant all-round team display, but two players turned in outstanding individual performances. Nich Fazel continued his superb form this season and once again the tactically perceptive Supremo must take credit for converting last season's bad boy striker into an industrious and hugely effective right-sided midfielder. Fazel adds pace and threat down the right, and the run and pull-back that set up the all-important second goal for Craig Taylor was just one of a number of such sorties. But where Fazel really scores heavily is his non-stop running and tracking, and also his strong aerial power, all traits that give extra steel to the collective defensive effort. On any other day Gurch Nat would have romped away with the MoM Award for his two superbly taken goals, but had to settle for second spot, which only serves to underline the outstanding nature of Fazel's performance. The importance of the match attracted an impressive turnout of 94% of the eligible electorate, and four other players received votes (although surely the vote for the profligate Abbott was laden with irony?!?).
