Despite the rather emphatic scoreline, Logica produced a much improved performance against league leaders Varsovia, who still boast a 100% record this season not least through having bagged 46 goals by early November. And this despite a number of key absentees such as Reevaldo, Gautam, Buck, Abbott, Wright and Groom. Some reshuffling was required, and that makes Ross Melville's excellent performance out of position in the middle of the park even better. He was at the hub of everything, moving the ball and chasing back to get in some important tackles to regain possession. He also came close to getting on the scoresheet when a vicious volley was somehow turned around the post by the Varsovian gloveman. Melville has been in sparkling form this season after recovering from hamstring-knack, finding himself on the MoM leader-board after almost every match, so it is just reward for him to top the pile.
Hoyzone showed great character, application and no little skill as he led the forward line. Despite not having had much luck in front of goal this season, he was still showing himself up front and buoying the troops with plenty of vocal encouragement. The wonderful strike for Logica's goal was clearly the highlight, but he made life uncomfortable for the Varsovian back line all morning.
Nick Chetty also provided a threat down the right flank, particularly in the first half when the Varsovian left-back increasingly resorted to some shirt tugging to stop his pacey progress, a technique to which the referee was for the most part oblivious. After the match, however, the defender got his excuses in. "The Logica player had so many shirts on that it was difficult to avoid touching them," he pleaded. There was unfortunately no post-match repost from the Logica man, who was still in the dressing room floundering in a sea of acrylic.
