Double disappointment as Logica fell twice over by the narrowest of margins to third placed Sands End in the Riverside mud. The nature of both defeats was unfortunate, not least for ace gloveman Rob Sapwell. The first match was decided by an own goal in first half injury time when a shot cannoned back off the post only to rebound into the net off the prostrate keeper. In the second match, Sands End took the lead from a penno conceded by Sapwell, and after Logica had battled back to equalise, scored the winner directly after the goalie had seen red for some classic penalty box handbags. The sympathy vote in this week's MoM Poll is unlikely to provide much in the way of consolation.
James Buck had once again given his all in pursuit of victory. His non-stop chasing and closing down of opponents is almost taken for granted, and his bullish breaks from midfield were once again to the fore. But there is much more to Buck's game than aggression, and his skill and patience were continually in evidence as he tried to prompt attacks with some neat passes despite the difficult conditions. A brilliant strike to give Logica an equaliser and hope in the second match capped an impressive morning's work. For the second week running, Fazel picked up plenty of votes and a yellow card for verbals, but this time his excellent display came in the unaccustomed position of centre half. Rob Smithies also earned some recognition after a promising debut at right-back.
