At least Logica gave themselves a chance of securing safety by managing to reorganise this final fixture when most other clubs were ensconced on the beach. But unlike a number of recent seasons, there was to be no rendition of The Great Escape this time around, as a nippy Select team put paid to our hopes of survival with five second half goals. Logica thus finish second bottom, and even with the demise of Battersea City, Spectra and Pimlico Village, our continual struggle against the drop in recent years makes it highly unlikely that the league mandarins will provide any exemption from relegation to Division 3.

It has been a struggle for much of the season to raise sufficient players, but the Supremi deserve great credit for their optimistic persistence, and they managed to raise a good quality dozen on this bank holiday weekend. Pete Chapman made himself available to help the desperate cause, and was rewarded with the striking role that he had long sought. And his application for the post was clearly based on qualifications rather than glory-hunting, as he fired home both Logica's goals and had another disallowed for a marginal offside decision.

His first half equaliser had given Logica much hope right up until the interval (a point would have moved us out of the relegation zone), but two quick goals by Select early in the second half effectively ended the dream. Three more goals conceded was harsh on Logica, and their defensive efforts were worthy of praise for the first hour at least, as a rash of votes for Fazel and Greenwood demonstrated. Chris Greenwood, in particular, was deserving of praise, playing out of position at left-back but still getting in some finely timed tackles to repeatedly thwart a pacey right-winger, whilst Dav Gautam also earned some recognition for battling gamely to the end.
