Logica had a tough draw tor the Memorial Shield, as their first round Group contained two first division sides, and only one team from the group of four would qualify. This first group match found Logica in top form against first division opposition, and the 6-1 victory should stand them in good stead it the group is to be decided on goal difference.

The jades were fired up from the start, and scored within three minutes through . was sent clear with an excellent through ball. With just the keeper to beat, the stylish forward spotted in a slightly better position and generously squared the ball. Despite a defender managing to intercept, was first to the loose ball. Rounding the keeper, he was just about to smash the ball into the net from two inches in celebration, when appears from nowhere to take it off the captain's toe and claim the goal for himself! Surely, this is not the spirit the game should be played in? Mysteriously, was not to appear in Logica's next two games.

After such a fine start it was a bit of a shock when Hampstead equalised. A cross found slack defensive marking which allowed the away side to score from close range. Logica pressed forward again, and redeemed himself to some extent by setting up a goal for . A long throw was flicked on by the guilty forward, and rose well to glance a very rare headed goal into the corner.

A third goal followed quickly. Hampstead defenders lost a long goal-kick in the sun, and was left with the easy job of volleying home from ten yards. Just before half-time notched his first goal of the season with a well struck, low shot from the edge of the box.

In the second-half Logica relaxed in the hot sun, although some quarters thought they should press on for more goals. Even so, two further goals did come. snatched his second with a shot from near the penalty spot after the proverbial goal-mouth scramble. completed his hat-trick with a cool piece of finishing, after a defender had completely missed a low cross. A great result, but the real test would come the following week when the opposition would be the second placed team in the first division.
