A battling performance by Logica gained a tight but deserved victory due to some opportunist finishing and an excellent defensive display. A first half goal by gave the Jades a well-earned lead which they held long into the second half. did as much as anyone to preserve this slender advantage, making two competent diving saves -one in each half.
As the final whistle approached Woodvale increased the pressure in search of an equaliser, and eventually this arrived after a series of corners. The last of these was hit dangerously into the six yard box, Logica for once failed to clear, and a volley rocketed into the roof of their net.
Before and after this goal, Logica had withstood some extreme physical intimidation. was unlucky to take the brunt of this, as he was punched twice in the face on separate occasions behind the referee's back. Ironically the only booking of this increasingly violent affair was 's for one too many "Howay man"s.
Logica retaliated in the best possible way. With minutes left on the watch, collected a weak clearance on the edge of Woodvale's box. For once the skilful yet hard-running central midfielder had a little extra time to control the ball and pick his spot. His spot was the top right-hand corner of the goal, and Rovers' keeper couldn't get near the ball. Woodvale fought for an equaliser, a little too literally for Logica's liking, but the Jades held on for two hard-won points.
