, unsung hero of many of Logica's past campaigns, hit the headlines on Sunday with his first ever goal against Sporting Bloomsbury at Battersea Park. A superb strike with only ten minutes remaining wrapped up a well-earned victory for the Mighty Jades. The goal capped a fine performance by the young left-back, and indeed a fine season which has seen finally nail down a regular first team spot.
In the end, Logica won this first round cup-tie comfortably. However, at 10-0 up and seemingly cruising, poor defending and goalkeeping allowed the Fourth Division side to pull a goal back. Suddenly Logica were in tatters and it did not seem out of the question for Sporting to pull back a deficit that had only seconds earlier seemed beyond them. Fortunately, the goal came with only ten seconds left on the watch, and Logica just managed to hang on to the final whistle to take their place in the second round (where they will play either Iveys or Fianna).
Before this dramatic finale, things had gone smoothly for the First Division side. Heavy rain had rendered Regents Park unplayable (sic), and so the game was switched to Logica's plastic pitch at the last minute. A goal in the very first minute then saw Logica off to a flying start as finished at the third attempt.
It was all one way traffic as Logica added another four before half-time. scored twice, and added another before headed a fifth just before the break. The Geordie striker then gave way to , taking over the role of referee for the second half. Apparently this is the first time has been substituted in his entire career!
Things continued in the same vein after the break. Centre-half headed home from a corner before completed his hat- trick with a sweetly hit shot. added an eighth before two penalties took Logica into double fiqures. slotted home the first perfectly, and was then brought down heavily for the second. This was the cue for to step up for his moment of glory.
