With perfect symmetry, Logica ended a somewhat disappointing season just as they had begun it, with an uninspiring 3-0 defeat at the hands St Anselms 'A' who one game later would go on to clinch the divisional championship. A largely defensive performance saw our heroes holding out gallantly for 70 minutes, until their well-practised frailty against crosses finally did for them.
Whilst the defence just about coped for the most part, Logica never really threatened at the other end despite a good performance from lone striker Abbott. Stand-in keeper Millar was the star of the show as he made a string of outstanding saves to keep Saints at bay, and regularly defied the odds in one-on-one situations.
In the end however it was the weaknesses that Logica had displayed all season defending corners and crosses that broke the deadlock. First a corner was bundled over the line on the rebound after a brilliant point- blank save from Millar, and then an indirect free-kick near the bye-line was glanced home. A third break-away goal merely emphasised the one- sidedness of the whole affair.
Not even a three-minute cameo appearance at the death by that great Logica star of yesteryear, Graham Read, could alter the outcome in any way, although Read did at least make himself eligible for some Player of the Season votes.
After all the ups and downs of another roller-coaster season, chief tactician Clarke was left with a summer of hard-thinking ahead.
