Report by The Spence Family
Logica were beaten by a competent Cultural side who had been reduced to ten men just before half-time. A good first-half performance was spoiled by some sloppy football in the second-half, and some peculiar refereeing decisions. The opposition's neat and decisive passing gave them a deserved 2-0 victory.
The football in the first-half was a tight midfield battle with no team gaining the upper-hand. Cultural had a couple of long-range efforts that were easily covered by Davis in goal. Hatton, I.Clarke and Appleyard were untroubled by the Cultural forwards.
The best chance of the first-half arrived after twenty minutes, when J.Clarke fed Spence. The centre-forward took on the Cultural sweeper and easily beat him for pace. Now one on one with the goalkeeper the diminutive number one kept out a powerful shot with his face.
The turning point in the match arrived in the 41st minute. The referee, who was favouring Logica with many decisions, decided that we needed more help by sending off the Cultural centre-half. A foolish, and late, challenge on J.Clarke was deemed a bookable offence. The rush of blood arriving precisely sixty seconds after the defender had been pettily booked for dissent.
Cultural came out for the second-half and dominated. Logica could not string two passes together, and it was no surprise when Cultural took the lead. A second arrived soon after with the centre-forward sending a scorching volley past Davis.
Logica had a couple of efforts on goal after this. Fleming forcing a good save from the goalie from a 22-yard free-kick, and Toman firing straight at the goalkeeper's legs in the last minute.
Good games from Davis, Hatton and J. Clarke.
