Logica finally claimed their first victory of 2006 at the fifth time of asking. Three league defeats and a plethora of postponements had left looking nervously over his shoulder, and nothing short of three points would satisfy him against bottom placed Invictus. But his players responded to the challenge, and an accomplished second half display in particular saw them run out emphatic 5-0 winners.

himself was still suffering from a serious broken toe-nail, but was able to draft club captain back into the squad, and , so impressive last week at left back on his return from injury, kept his place. With new boys and again forcing their way into the starting line-up, the absence of the likes of , and was not as serious as it might otherwise have been, as the quality-in-depth of Logica's squad continues to improve.

The visitors started brightly, and, aided by a strong wind, took the game to Invictus early doors. The game was only ten minutes old when Logica took the lead with a sublime strike. pounced on a loose ball in midfield and slipped a neat pass forwards to who had worked a yard of space. Clearly unfazed by last week's miss, the experienced striker shot first time, perfectly curling the ball low and just inside the far post from fully 25 yards [1-0].

Perhaps the goal came too early, for Logica failed to build on their advantage during the remainder of the first half. The strong wind seemed to encourage long balls over the top, which for the most part ran out of play or through to the keeper, and only long range efforts from and came anywhere close to adding a second.

As the half wore on, Invictus grew visibly in confidence as Logica failed to pose more problems, and twice came close to equalising as the interval approached. The visitors looked susceptible to the long hoof over the top, and were too regularly caught with just one player covering at the back. Invictus' diminutive forward took advantage as he broke clear and poked the ball past the advancing . But as he prepared to roll the ball into an empty net, right-back appeared from nowhere with a quite miraculous sliding block which averted a certain goal. Minutes later an identical break saw forced to come out quickly again, and this time he made a brave and equally vital block at the attacker's feet.

It turned out that Logica's attacking style was far better suited to playing against the wind. After a cautious ten minutes in which Invictus offered little further threat, Logica realised that the game was theirs for the taking. As they began to pass to feet, the pressure increased. had already seen two half chances saved, when collected a headed clearance midway in the opponents half. A quick one-two gave the Logica midfielder a second to look up, and he picked out a run by into the box with an absolute peach of a pass. The new striker continued where he had left off last week, taking the ball expertly in his stride before stroking it clinically past a diving Invictus keeper [2-0].

The relief of a two-goal cushion was palpable, and the visitors began to turn on the style. , having another superb game, started the move of the match minutes later that saw Logica add a third. He played the ball into 's feet, and the striker (never one to pass up the opportunity for some noncing) deftly flicked the ball backwards between two defenders to free in the inside-left channel. His low cross somehow evaded a darting run from substitute towards the near post, but at the back stick made no mistake as he blasted it into the roof of the net from an acute angle [3-0].

kept the impetus going with some well-timed substitutions from the sidelines, and Logica were thoroughly enjoying themselves now. burst forward to intercept a weak clearance, and continued his run into the box as managed to lay the ball back into his path. The finish was again excellent, as the central defender skilfully side-footed into the far corner past the bemused Invictus glove-man for his second goal in as many games [4-0].

There was still time for a fifth, and another well worked goal it was too. again picked out another tireless run from into the inside-right channel. But a quick call from , now playing up front, was enough for his strike partner to dummy the ball, which ran on into the Sheffielder's path. There was still a bit to do, but as with his clinical finish against Notting Hill, did not hesitate in curling a precise finish just inside the right-hand post [5-0].

Invictus continued to pump it long, and Logica were a bit fortunate when one such high ball found their gangly forward in the clear, but his rushed finish was straight at . will have taken as much satisfaction from a rare clean sheet as from a forward line that is suddenly firing on all cylinders. The arrival of has played a big part in this, but the three forwards have notched six between them in the last two games, and the team as a whole, nine.

Logica face Invictus again next week at the Stade, with another three points just as vital if they are to avoid any late-season relegation jitters. Complacency is clearly a danger, but will be reminding his charges that it was a combination of hard work and fluent passing that ultimately proved effective in this game.
