It had seemed that destiny was on Logica's side when had craftily rearranged our clash with the Dragons for St. George's Day. But although Logica drew first blood, they couldn't kill off their fiery opponents, and by the end of a battling display the home side were hanging on for a draw.

Somewhat perversely, Logica's first draw of the season was sufficient to ensure Second Division football at the Stade next season. With just one match left, the Dragons now remain six points behind us whilst Invictus were sunk some time ago. In truth, 's men never seriously looked like being sucked into the relegation mire, although a respectable if mediocre seventh spot may not be improved upon, even if we win our last two games.

Despite lacking Supreme inspiration once more, Logica started brightly and posed the early questions. was making some energetic runs beyond his strikers and was unlucky not to latch onto an headed flick. The striker then made space for himself with a neat dummy, and a fine lofted pass seemed to have sent clear until the bounce of the ball on a bobbley Riverside Lands pitch defied him. went on a galloping 70-yard run down the left flank only to be denied by a fine last-ditch tackle in the opponents box. The Dragons' keeper was less convincing, dropping two corners - the first of which saw 's poke blocked on the line.

On the half hour mark, Logica took the lead they deserved. pounced on a loose pass and lost no time in sending away down the right. As the Logica winger dribbled into the box, a defender's desperate lunge foiled , but following up showed sharp reactions, readjusting his feet quickly to ping the clearance straight into the goal off the far post [1-0].

As half time approached Logica began to labour and the Dragons pressed with more conviction. A series of corners induced some chaotic scrambles in the home penalty area, and was called upon to make a couple of smart saves. But just as Logica looked to have reached the interval with their lead in tact, disaster struck in first half injury time. It was nothing more than a hopeful hoof over Logica's back four, and a decisive call from the advancing dissuaded from attempting to hook the ball clear. But as he caught the ball, the Logica keeper collided with a Dragon. The ball was forced from his grasp, leaving the Dragon to fire home easily from close range [1-1].

The second half found Logica looking increasingly tired, but without any substitutes to call upon, the starting XI battled on gamely. and were immense at the centre of defence, the latter looking once again impressive in an increasingly familiar role. Both players were dominant in the air and executed a series of superbly timed sliding tackles that foiled the Dragons at every turn. Consequently, despite the visitor's dominance of possession, was rarely called upon to make a save, although a brave dive at a Dragon's feet proved a vital intervention.

A combination of tired legs and a bobbley surface saw yellow shirts surrendering possession as the simplest of passes went astray. Occasionally Logica mustered some composure and posed a threat, with most of Logica's attacking quality emanating from . It was his superb pass through the eye of a needle that fed an break and should have restored the lead. The ageing striker took the ball nimbly in his stride, but his attempt to stab it past the Dragons' keeper from twelve yards misfired horribly, the ball scuffing up and over the bar.

Logica found some reserves of strength from somewhere, battling to the end and riding their luck on a couple of occasions. The referee was thankfully uninterested when a Dragon burst past in the box and seemed to tumble over the Logica man's outstretched leg. And in the dying minutes, was in the right place at the right time to head a dangerous cross-shot off the line.

Ironically Logica had just put together one of their better second half moves to win a corner when the referee blew the final whistle, just as was spotting up the dead-ball. It would have been a tad unjust if Logica had slayed the Dragons at the death, and will anyway be happy enough with the point that removed any lingering fears of relegation.
