Report by Demi-Supremo, .
The last few weeks had seen Logica get over their terrible start, and they were now on the cusp of getting the season back on track. Would last week's first league win act as the perfect foil for a much changed Logica 1st XI?
The visitors started the game without injured regulars and . , and were also missing. Their opponents were another Fourth Division outfit and, even with a changed line up, was confident of getting a win by using the depth from the squad.
It was the oppo that started stronger. Logica were dodging tackles and losing possession. Wasteels were doing exactly the opposite. It was the home side that created the first chance in somewhat controversial fashion. When their problematic striker chased with , the Logica defender seemed to be fouled in the build up. There was no whistle from the referee, but blocked with his feet. The Supremo continued to mouth off to the ref and was warned as to his future conduct. Not a great manager's example, but it simply showed the frustration of the man when had been clearly upended.
It was then Logica's turn to create. stepped up to take a free kick, and the shot caused problems for the Wadteels' keeper, who was lucky that his fumble went onto the bar and back into his grateful arms.
After a short period of Logica pressure, Valtaro took the lead against the run of play. slid in to take down Valtaro's second striker in the box, with his partner coolly slotting home from the spot [0-1]. It was to be one of a number of goals Logica would concede due to clumsy defending.
The latter part of the first half saw Logica start to raise the bar, and they managed to equalise before the break. swung in a corner with his deadly left peg which found directing a superb header past the keeper for his second goal in as many games [1-1].
At half-time, Logica changed their shape to go for the win. After a stern team talk the players re-emerged from the tunnel thinking they could take the game by the scruff of the neck. Ditching their 4-5-1 formation, and reverting to a 4-4-2 line up, Logica wanted the win. had been left with no support in the first half and needed help. His hard work had made the corner that led to the goal, but now moved up along side him, with switching to a central midfield role.
For the first five minutes Logica looked the better side, winning second balls and using the width of the pitch well. It was therefore a big surprise that Valtaro regained the lead on 55 minutes. Once more Logica gave away a clumsy foul on the edge of the box and, even with a four man wall, the Valtaro forward curled a shot past into the far top corner. All in all, a great goal [1-2].
Even though they were trailing, Logica were still the better side. Their perseverance was rewarded ten minutes later when struck a half chance against the hand of a Valtaro defender. , who was playing in an unfamiliar left midfield role, stepped up in the absence of to beat the keeper from 18 yards [2-2].
The game was there for the taking and Logica did not want extra time with an important league programme taking them up to Christmas.
Unfortunately, though, the visitors buckled again by giving away a silly foul in a dangerous area. Valtaro's troublesome forward swung in a hard-to-judge free kick from the left hand side which avoided both and the Logica defenders, and nestled inside the side netting [2-3].
Logica needed an instant comeback but were now looking a spent force. pushed up into central midfield, and replaced at right-back. It so nearly paid off as the visitors went so close to finding a third equalizer, even if they didn't perhaps deserve it. found space in Wasteel box and his first shot, though well struck, was well saved by the otherwise dodgy Valtaro keeper. The Logica man made contact on the rebound, but only saw his efforts result in a goal kick.
The game was soon up, as Valtaro added a clinching fourth goal with the last kick of the game. With Logica pushing up to search for the equalizer, Valtaro's right back ran the full length of the pitch to play a one-two with his forward before side-footing past a stationary [2-4].
The full time whistle went and Valtaro ran off as if they had just won the World Cup. It was a poor, poor performance and even if Logica had got a result, it would not have been deserved. It is probably best that we leave this one in the Logica vaults, not to be mentioned of again. I am guessing that those vaults are probably looking pretty crammed by now. Anyhow, back to the league!!!
