The day dawned with a flurry of snow, and it seemed certain that Logica's visit to play RBL Fulham at the famous old Hurlingham Stadium would be postponed. Alas it was not to be, and as the continual onslaught of rain and sleet in sub-zero temperatures turned the pitch into an icy quagmire, it was the impressive home side who adapted best to the conditions and ran out deserving 4-0 winners.
That Logica raised a dozen players was a feat in itself, with so many players unavailable for various reasons, and given the weather forecast. There was not a centre-half to be found anywhere in the squad, and it fell to the usual central midfield pairing of and to do the honours at the heart of the defence.
Despite the final scoreline, these two can take immense satisfaction from their impressive and gutsy displays in conditions not exactly favourable for defenders. A string of vital tackles, intelligent interceptions and brave headers did a great deal to stop Fulham adding to their tally, and they were ably assisted by full backs and , whilst keeper also made some skilful and brave saves, especially in the second half.
Fulham turned out to be a good side, with plenty of pace, skill, and aggression. Their first half dominance forced a tally of corners well into double figures, and it was a testament to Logica's character and determination that the home side only managed a single goal. This came predictably from one of those many corners, although the fairly soft glancing header only squirmed past guarding the far post with the aid of the skiddy surface [0-1].
Logica put the occasional good move together, but efforts from both and from the edge of the box were blocked. The game was all but up when Fulham added two quick goals early in the second half, again both headers: one from another corner, and the next from a deep cross hoiked in from the right-wing corner flag [0-3].
Logica's best spell came midway through the second half. A neat pass from played clear, and he was quite unceremoniously stopped in his tracks by a desperately sliding Fulham player just inside the box. Despite a huge skid-mark clearly identifying the scene of the crime, the referee gave a free-kick just outside the box, but Logica should have scored anyway. First 's low curling free-kick was somehow saved by the keeper at full stretch, only for to crash the rebound against the under-side of the bar.
The conditions had really deteriorated by now. At one point in the second half, the sky got so dark it was like night-time. Meanwhile the ceaseless rain and sleet had thrown up so many puddles that the ball kept getting stuck as players struggled to dribble forwards in comedy fashion. Mistakes were inevitable, and when miscued a drop-kick, a grateful Fulham player was able to easily loft it back over the Logica keeper's head and into the net [0-4]. The final whistle was a blessed relief all round.
