PEN PICTURE

The "If Selected..." View: Fazel has had an explosive history with the Logica club in more ways than one. As a young striker, he burst onto the scene in 1999 and immediately caught the eye by scoring a dramatic late equaliser after coming off the bench. However, largely due to injury, he was only to play one other game that season, and a promising career seemed to be stuttering when he only made a further solitary appearance off the bench during the following campaign. However, a bulk order of bandages, strappings and assorted bodily supports seemed to sort out the injury problems, whilst not impinging on his lightning-quick pace. An injury-free Fazel thus finally got an extended run in the side in 2001-02 and really started to show his striking quality as he notched a goal every other start. But the following season was interrupted by another explosion, when Fazel was justifiably aggrieved at being left out of the squad after bagging a brace in Logica's second game of the season. It was characteristic of the player's commitment that he wanted to play so badly, as was the fact that he regularly came down to watch when left out, and Fazel's career took an upward turn the following season courtesy of an unexpected positional switch. With the squad depleted, Fazel was thrust into the hurly-burly of midfield and excelled himself. His combative nature found him battling tooth and nail in the Logica cause as he proved himself extremely effective in the tackle, whilst his pace and skill simultaneously enabled him to contribute significantly to attack. Revelling in his new role, Fazel was one of the key men in turning the club's fortunes around, and he played in virtually every match until some flimsy excuse saw him miss the end of the season due to another kind of match.

EXPERIENCE

Logica FC Debut: 19th September 1999: St Augustines 2-2 Logica. The reporter of the day noted: "Substitutes were wisely used, and debutante Nich Fazel caught the eye with his pace and technique: his rasping half-volley drive from twenty yards fizzed just inches over the bar. [Scoring late equaliser on his debut:] Fazel was alert, and dived in bravely to prod home the loose ball and the score was 2-2."
