Whilst Logica's week off and subsequent defeat to Kew Green has seen them drop to 7th spot in the table, there was an even bigger shock two Sundays ago when Division Two's last two 100% records were pitted against each other.

As we reported just prior to the game, Broadway were seemingly running away with the title having racked up 25 goals and maximum points from their first four games. In contrast, Invictus had lost their first five league matches, haemorrhaging 20 goals in the process. A sure-fire home-banker it seemed, but imagine the bookies' woe when the pointless side roused themselves to earn a creditable 1-1 draw and move themselves off the bottom of the table at the same time.

Suddenly the destination of the Division Two Championship did not seem a foregone conclusion, and with the leaders also not in action last Sunday, Broadway's closest challengers took full advantage. Bald Eagles saw off HOT Notting Hill 3-1 before wellying Welham 7-3 to claim top spot. Meanwhile West Six reinforced their promotion credentials by also beating Welham 4-2 (the team they pipped to last season's Division 3 title) and then felling the Dragons 6-2 to jump into second spot.

Elsewhere the Atlas Lions and Fulham Utd both won to join Kew Green on 10 points, all three teams leapfrogging Logica. Fulham comfortably saw off Spectra who continue to struggle to recapture last season's form, whilst the Lions bounced back after their Logica loss to pip HOT Notting Hill in a seven goal thriller.

This made it two consectutive defeats for the Hill, but the West London side may be in bigger HOT water after the waves created from their temptuous 3-1 Cup win over Kew Green (aet). The match appears to have been somewhat bad-tempered, with allegations of spitting, punches being thrown, linesman abuse and threats of post-match violence by the victors that led to them receiving two red cards, one to a player who had already been substituted. An amusing description of these events can be found in the match report on Kew Green's website, where there is also a copy of the letter they fired off to the Sportmans League after the game. There are rumours that the players suspended as a result were seen playing this Sunday again, so there may be further repercussions still for Notting Hill.

Finally we report that the Supremo has changed tack in his on-going battle with the Football Gods and our seemingly unalterable destiny of alternate victories and defeats for ever more. Having failed in his attempt to appease the Gods by synchronising with their fortnightly win cycle, Groom is now instead throwing down a provocative gauntlet.

Having no game for two weeks, our next league fixture on 20th November against Welham Athletic was scheduled to be a victory. But the gaffer has decided to play with fire by inserting a friendly next Sunday against Kensington Athletic (currently second bottom in the Senior Amateur Reserve Division) down at Hurlingham Stadium. Should the sequence continue and we win the friendly before losing three points against Welham, questions will surely be asked in certain tabloid cyber-rags.
