QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Playing Position: Substitute.
Playing Strengths: Running the line; awaiting my fate between the sticks when no one else will play there; arriving early for a game - hours early - even when not in the squad.
Playing Weaknesses: Convincing any manager that they might like to try me as a striker; feeling knackered during the game, then feeling well up for another 90 mins just afterwards...
EXPERIENCE
Date Joined Logica: 16th October 2000
Logica FC Debut: 9th November 2003: West Ten 11-0 Logica. After a cry for help, I joined up with Logica FC for a match against title contenders West Ten (that's the olympic boxing title). Logica had just lost to them 10-1, and now was their chance for revenge. I got up at 6am to get to London by train - something that will never happen again while I have a car! As I watched from the sidelines on a damp November morning, Logica went 6-0 down before the man in the middle blew for those half-time oranges (or fags). I came on for the second half and managed to stem the tide... down to only another 5 goals. So 11-0 loss. Great start. Things could only get better... My full debut, and my first game in goal, netted Logica their first win of the season (just), so I might ignore the other ones.
The reporter of the day noted: "Vaughan replaced Groom at right-back for the second half and made some timely interceptions".
Previous Teams: Logica Reading, Cryfield FC, Re-United, and a club at uni I can't remember the name of.
Greatest Footballing Moment: For me - Some of the saves made towards the end of my first season, and a few tackles too. Moments that won't be hard to surpass next season. For football - Saints reaching the FA Cup Final in 2003 or beating Man U 6-3.
Worst Footballing Moment: For me - My first game in goal, my first crucial, but easy save, and it goes under my body. Great. For football - probably Hillsborough. It's the only time I know exactly where I was when I saw it on telly.
INTEREST
Model Pro (Models His Game on You): Francis Benali - a full back whose game was based on true grit rather than any lingering ability. He kept going while people thought he really wasn't up to sratch for the Premiership, and then was replaced by someone even worse. People said he was heading for a Div 1 club, and then he played for the Saints for 6 more years. Only scored 1 goal, ever.
Favourite All-Time Player: Matthew Le "God" Tissier - he stunned everyone with moments of true genius and pie eating - and Thierry Henry - brilliance without arrogance, and no pies at all.
Pre-Match Superstition: Never wear number 13, but if you find it in the kit bag then you've not actually woken up, you're still dreaming and you're late for the game.
Interesting Trivia: I know where a few Saints players past and present live, and some of them wave to me when I pass them on the street or say hi in the pub. Wow. Aren't I just the IT man of football(!)
